Asra Syed Named to Travis County Women Lawyers’ Foundation Board

The Travis County Women Lawyers’ Foundation has selected Botkin Chiarello Calaf partner Asra Syed as a member of its Board of Directors for 2023-2024.

A former public radio journalist, Asra is committed to the well-being of the Austin community as a member of the State Bar of Texas, Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association (MAMAs), and the South Asian Bar Association of Austin. Within the TCWLF, she also serves as the organization’s venue co-chair. Asra also takes on significant pro bono matters and has litigated for the release of minors from immigration detention facilities and to enforce the 4th and 5th Amendment rights of immigrant detainees.

“Asra is an excellent attorney and leader who is extremely dedicated to her practice, her clients and her community,” said Botkin Chiarello Calaf managing partner Jennifer Rappoport Colimon. “The TCWLF couldn’t have selected a better individual for their board.”  

Asra is licensed in both Texas and New York, and, in addition to receiving her JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, has earned an MA from the University of Texas at Austin. Asra’s practice includes trademark and copyright litigation, non-compete litigation, employment litigation, trade secret litigation, and commercial and shareholder litigation.

Founded in 1977, the foundation seeks to:

  • foster communication among women lawyers
  • strengthen the image and position of women lawyers in the community
  • work toward the elimination of gender bias
  • inform the public about legal issues affecting women, and
  • work toward the enhancement of the public perception of the legal profession
