Experience

Elizabeth Arora has successfully represented clients in a wide range of high-stakes commercial disputes over the past decade. Liz’s current practice is focused on complex commercial, intellectual property, and tort litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including in the fields of intellectual property, constitutional law, business and contractual disputes, defamation, and trade secret misappropriation. Early in her career, Liz practiced antitrust and complex commercial litigation at one of the nation’s top law firms in Washington, D.C.

Liz received both her undergraduate and law school degrees with honors from Harvard University. While in law school, Liz represented indigent clients and served as Vice President at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, was an editor of the Harvard Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review, and served as a criminal law course assistant. Prior to her law career, she was a distinguished scientist, earning an M.S. from University of California at Berkeley, authoring numerous peer-reviewed research papers, and winning first place in the nation’s most prestigious high school science competition.

Liz leverages her outstanding multidisciplinary training and experience to quickly identify key issues and potential exposures, and develop creative and incisive strategies to secure the best possible outcome for her clients.

Representative Cases

Trade Secret, Non-Compete and Non-Solicit Litigation

  • Secured dismissal with prejudice for innovative semiconductor trading company against trade secret misappropriation claims, after defeating request for preliminary injunction and subsequent appeal;
  • In two unrelated cases, successfully sued to enforce non-compete covenants and protect trade secrets when innovative biotech companies’ former employees, still possessing their employers’ proprietary documents, joined direct competitors immediately after their employment terminated;
  • Represented Austin-based nationwide mortgage company against sellers of an out-of-state mortgage business, who joined a competitor and began luring away key employees and customers in violation of the sales agreement’s non-competition and non-solicitation agreements.

Complex Commercial and Shareholder Litigation

  • Secured total win in Texas federal court and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals for regional energy authority in a nine-figure dispute over meaning of liquidated damages clause in long-term power purchase agreement;
  • Recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars for victims of a wire scam after bank used fraudulent wiring instructions sent as part of home purchase;
  • Helped Texas ranch owners secure favorable settlement against mining and power companies that filled empty mine pits with millions of tons of toxic waste, polluting land and subsurface waters;
  • Successfully litigated to end an internet smear campaign against Austin-based medical practice that included hundreds of fake negative reviews posted under false personas;
  • Successfully litigated to favorable settlement on behalf of Austin custom-software development company in dispute over rights to e-commerce website;
  • Defended a cryptocurrency-focused hedge fund against various allegations of securities fraud and fiduciary violations;
  • Defended real estate agency against a hired photographer’s copyright infringement claims;
  • Ongoing assistance to various executives and shareholders of closely-held companies in analyzing potential legal claims to determine whether to proceed with negotiation, litigation, and/or settlement, and providing necessary correspondence and briefing to secure a favorable outcome.
