In recognition of her work to empower women in the Austin legal community, Botkin Chiarello Calaf partner María Amelia Calaf (MAC) has been named to the inaugural Austin Woman 2024 Changemaker list, which celebrates the impactful women who are reshaping Austin for the better and uplifting the community.

An advocate for and mentor to minority women in the legal and business communities, MAC is consistently recognized for her commitment to diversity. Last month, she was re-appointed to the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Latina Commission; earlier in 2023, she joined an HNBA panel discussion on Latinx representation in the legal field; and in 2022, Texas Lawyer named her a Diversity and Inclusion Champion (subscription required).

She was also interviewed on the Austin Bar Association’s Council of Firsts podcast to discuss her experience with Cafecitos, a supportive community of Latina attorneys, which she launched in Austin.

In her legal practice, MAC litigates complex commercial matters with a focus on trade secret litigation. She has a track record of both helping clients protect their trade secrets and defeating unsubstantiated accusations of misappropriation.
